Stage Fright

Stage Fright

Will was there
Not minding me
And mind was there
Not willing me
And no one moved
Or spoke or blinked
No utterance of breath
Nor breathing of words
No muscles could move
Nor nerves could twitch
Or thoughts could step
Or leap, or fly
From this delicate
Itch in time

All frozen in place
Dynamically still
Blood rushing fear
Heart draining faith
Voice screaming silence
Eyes racing blank
As stiff as my shadow
So moved the light

This had no beginning
No middle, no end
No memory at least
To stay or to run
Just being, and is
It had me, and then…

It brushed my face
The curtains, they fell
Back I leapt, free at last
I took a bow, and then I left
